Instant Snow Sensory Play Age guide: 3+ years
Please note that this activity is suitable for children 3+ years old, and not taste safe.
Living in the UAE, real snow requires a trip to Mall of the Emirates, but that doesn't mean little ones can't experience the wonder of playing in a fluffy white winter wonderland. This one-ingredient sensory activity took us about 5 minutes to set up and delivered a full afternoon of play. There's lots to learn: temperature contrast, unexpected texture, and coloring the snow. You can bury small animals in it, press shapes, mould it into balls, or just let them dig their hands in freely. We love setting this up on an Elbirg play tray with a few arctic animal and letting the story unfold naturally.

Items needed:
Diapers
Water
Optional: Acrylic paint with water or water colors Water beads Polar bears, other animal figurines Colored ice cubes (liquid or gel food coloring) Sensory tools Instructions: 1. Fill a deep bowl with cold water and fully submerge the diaper. Let it soak for 10–15 minutes. 2. Remove the diaper and carefully cut it open along the middle seam — you'll see the gel has expanded enormously. 3. Scoop all the fluffy white gel out into a shallow tray or sensory bin. 4. Add food colouring if you'd like coloured snow, or keep it white for the classic effect. 5. Set up your play, you can extend play time by adding animal figurines, water beads, colored ice and other accessories.
